Amu project in collaboration with AMU Luxemburg and Nasso

Project Title:  Enhancing Zia Angelina’s capacity to provide access to quality Medical care and Vocational training for HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons.

AMU Luxemburg entered into a collaboration with NASSO to run a 3-year project in Namugongo and its surrounding areas to enhance Zia Angelina Health Centre capacity to provide access to quality medical care to the community in aspects of medical consultations, Maternity care, Immunization, Laboratory, Radiodiagnosis, Antiretroviral therapy (ART) care of people infected with HIV and a number of other health services. The enhancement is carried out in the ranging of training the staff through continuous medical education (CME), inhouse workshop on medical care and treatment and Customer centred care training for the patients.

This project is also focused in vocational training for the people infected and affected with HIV. The beneficiaries are trained in a number of vocation training skills ranging from Agribusiness- commercializing urban farming, tailoring and design, Art and Craft, Soap making and book making coupled with entrepreneurship to boost their business skills. The objective of these trainings is to establish a mindset change of income generating ventures to support their wellbeing since the majority are unemployed with a number of life challenges.

This project is focused on a household income whereby the beneficiaries are given skills that create employment and generate income and inturn support their families. These skills can be transferred to their family members since its hands on.

This projects also looks at the therapeutic nutrition training for the mothers who come for immunization and antennal services at Zia Angelina. Visiting mothers are taking through a practical exercise of preparation of nutritious meals for the babies and children by use of local organic foods, this is help mothers nurture their children with healthy feeding for their proper growth and wellbeing.

Under this project, NASSO- Zia Angelina Health Centre carryout outreach programs on primary health care in the different communities in Namugongo and it’s surrounding areas. During the outreachs, a number of health care activities are carried out like medical checkups, dental screening, immunization for the children, HIV councelling and treatment and health talks to the community on disease preventions. A number of the community members benefit from this program especially the vulnerable members of the community like the elderly, orphans and children.

AMU Luxemburg also supports Arcobaleno Nutrition Centre through the AMU for kids’ projects. funds are provided by AMU to run the activities of the Centre. The Centre was established to provide therapeutic nutrition and early childhood education to the vulnerable kids in the communities.
